We had an incredible day out on the water with Walter. Even though we were total beginners at fishing, his patience and guidance helped us reel in plenty of catches! Along the way, we enjoyed fascinating conversations about Yellowstone, Montana, local wildlife, and American life in general. Walter also shared some insider tips for exploring the park, which led us to a hidden little lake we had completely to ourselves for the afternoon. We can’t recommend this fly fishing trip enough—it’s an experience you won’t forget!

It has been a long-time dream of mine to fly fish with my Dad in Montana. Last week (8/12/24) we finally got our chance on the Yellowstone River upstream from Emigrant and had the great fortune to have Walter as our guide. What can I say – Walter was a patient instructor, good storyteller, knows his way around a drift boat, and most importantly guided us to trout (including a 17” brown). And he ties his own flies! We switched part way through our float from a wet fly baitfish/nymph set to a dry fly rig using his Big Bob Hopper with success.
If you are planning to fish the great trout rivers around the Livingston region Walter is your man. And if you do, tell him Bud and Dave say thanks!

We had a great day with Walter. I had just about zero fishing experience and he was patient and helped my technique a lot. Even with little knowledge, I still caught about 9 fish! He was extremely knowledgeable and really explained the reasoning behind where fish would be and why the casting technique is important.

Also, we had bad weather/water conditions on the scheduled day but were able to reschedule for another day on our trip, which made us very happy!

Overall, great day on the river. Would definitely recommend booking with him.

We had a fantastic full day float with Walter and can not recommend him highly enough. He worked hard to get us on fish and was incredibly helpful in fine tuning our casting and understanding how to fish from a boat (we usually wade). We learned a lot and I caught my fist Cutthroat trout thanks to Walter. He even set me up in positions for some good casts with my tenkara rod, something that is pretty rare in guides.

The whole experience was excellent from start to finish and made for a very memorable day. I would definitely book another trip with Yellowstone Country Fly FIshing.

Had a great trip with Walter on a half day float on the Yellowstone. Tough conditions in the wind but he put me in good positions and we caught quite a few.

What a wonderful experience!!!! Walter was an amazing guide. He is filled with knowledge of the land and the rivers. This was our first time fly fishing. Got us up to speed quickly and helped us catch a ton of fish. We caught two browns, two rainbows and a ton of white fish. I highly recommend this outfit!!! Will use their services again next trip.

My experience with Walter and Yellowstone Country Fly Fishing could not have been any better. He was an excellent communicator before and during our trip. My brother and I had never attempted fly fishing before, and Walter was able to teach the art in a way that helped us catch fish but take some valuable skills for the future. Not only is he an expert at his craft but he is also extremely knowledgeable in all things fishing and fish. I would highly recommend booking with this outfit.

My dad and I did a float trip on the Yellowstone river on 8/22/22 and had a fantastic experience with plenty of fish, including an 18” brown trout, a few decent sized rainbows and lots of whitefish. Being somewhat of a beginner, he gave lots of great tips, which was very helpful and much appreciated. We had a great time and are already talking about doing a wading trip with him next year. We would highly recommend using him for your guided trip.
